I am a local Salt Lake product photographer. As a product photographer, I often photograph products in the studio and outdoors. There have been many times that I have needed random little accessories to help me with my photo shoots. So here is a list of my top 5 product photography accessories that I will not do a photoshoot without.
Gaffer Tape
Gaffers tape is such an essential. I will buy a roll of it and then make tiny mini rolls for each of my camera bags, just so I don't forget it. You never know when you need to tape a gel to your strobe or tape down a cord. Or use gaffer tape as a quick-fix solution.
Clamps
Product photography can be very difficult without clamps. I am constantly needing to clamp reflectors and flags to light stands. I even make sure to bring a few different sizes of clamps so that there is a solution for all my needs.
Multi-Tool
Multi-Tool comes in handy all the time. Most often I use a multi-tool to change the baseplate of my camera or tighten down my tripod. It also comes in useful for opening packages or fixing items. I have a Leatherman multi-tool but any multi-tool works.
Air Blower
Being a Salt Lake commercial photographer I am used to living in the desert and dust covering my camera. An air blower helps keep your lens and sensor from those nasty dust spots that take so long to clean off. Also, it is essential for dusting off products in the studio. Always easier to clean products before a picture rather than while editing.
Grey Card
I carry a passport grey card whenever my camera goes with me. You can get grey cards that are 8x10 inches or even one that fits in your pocket. Most are inexpensive as well. It is important to make sure that your color balance is correct while taking product photos so that you can accurately display the product's true colors.
I hope that this list is useful to you. If you want to see the images that these accessories help me make click the "See My Work" button below. As well if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
